Telugu Mala Dalit Student Politics: The Dominant Instance at the University of Hyderabad
Dr S Swaroop Sirapangi's article, titled 'Telugu Mala Dalit Student Politics: The Dominant Instance at the University of Hyderabad' was published by the Indian Journal of Political Science.
The abstract of this article is as follows:
The Dalit movement and politics are relatively well-concentrated vis-a-vis Dalit student politics.
As a result, the paper focuses on the latter. Dominant political aspirations blossomed among the
Telugu Malas after successfully leading the anti-Karamchedu massacre movement. However,
Mala's leadership prospectus on the broader Telugu society has inherent limitations and
opposition. In this sequence, the paper specifically focuses on the University of Hyderabad’s
Ambedkar Students’ Association (ASA), which is dominated by the Telugu Mala Dalit students’.
Towards this direction, ASA's prime strengths and weaknesses are highlighted concerning other
student organisations. Overall, the ASA operational dynamics have a unique style too.
Methodologically, the paper's focus layover ‘comparative discourse analysis’.
Keywords: Ambedkar Students’ Association, Caste, Dalit Politics, Mala, Student Politics,
University of Hyderabad.
